Grades explained
The biggest frustration with used pallets is inconsistency. Knowing the grade terms helps you ask for the right stock and compare quotes.
Grade A units look near-new and suit automated lines and retail. Grade B units are structurally sound with visible wear or repairs, fine for one-way shipments and internal moves. If you are unsure, describe the application in your request and the partner supplier can suggest a grade.

What drives the price of used pallets
Price reflects the grade, the size and how in demand it is, the quantity, and how far the load travels. A full truckload of Grade B 48x40s prices very differently per unit than a small mixed bundle of specialty sizes.
The used market moves with lumber prices and regional supply. Flexing to a nearby size or a slightly lower grade can sometimes lower the price.
Matching the grade to the job
Buying Grade A when Grade B would do is a common way to overspend. For automated conveyors, racking, or customer-facing shipments, Grade A can be worth it. For internal moves and one-way shipments, Grade B often carries the same load for less.
When unsure, describe the weight, handling equipment, and whether the pallet is seen by a customer, rather than guessing at a grade.
